Description

A real full-spectrum board, in the size most homes actually need.

Most people buying their first grow light are not kitting out a two-metre tent. They have a shelf, a windowsill that gets nothing useful from October to March, a spare corner, a cupboard. They want plants that grow properly instead of stretching, leaning and sulking — and they would rather not spend the price of a decent tent to get there.

That is what this light is for. It runs LM281B diodes — the same chip family as our 150W board — in a compact panel with two work modes for different growth stages. Pick 120W or 200W, pick the plug for where you live, hang it at a sensible height, and the plants underneath get proper full-spectrum light instead of a purple glow that looks like it is doing something.

Key Features

  • Full spectrum, one light for the whole cycle — a balanced spectrum built for photosynthesis, so you are not swapping lamps between stages.
  • Two work modes — switch the output to suit the growth stage rather than running everything flat out from day one.
  • LM281B diodes — 508 of them on the 120W, 762 on the 200W. Efficient chips doing the actual work, not a headline wattage on a box.
  • Two sizes — 120W for a shelf or a tray, 200W when you need to cover more floor or hang higher.
  • The right plug — UK, EU, US or AU, and it runs on anything from 100V to 277V.
  • Compact panel — it fits a shelf, a cupboard or a small tent without dominating the space.

120W or 200W — which one?

The honest rule of thumb: more watts covers more floor area, or lets you hang the light higher above the canopy without the plants noticing.

  • 120W — a propagation tray, a single shelf, a windowsill run of herbs, a wardrobe or cupboard with a modest footprint.
  • 200W — a small tent footprint, a wider bench, taller plants, or anywhere you want headroom to raise the light as they grow.

If you are genuinely between the two, take the larger one and hang it higher. Too much light you can raise or switch down. Too little you cannot fix at all.

What it is good for

  • Seedlings and propagation trays that keep going leggy on a windowsill
  • Herbs and salad leaves on a kitchen shelf, year round
  • Houseplants through a British winter, when the daylight simply is not there
  • A cupboard, wardrobe or small grow tent
  • Greenhouse supplementary light in the dark months
  • Hydroponics and soil alike — the plant does not care which, it cares about the light

Good to Know

  • Height matters more than wattage. Hang it, do not stand it on the shelf beside the pot — you want the light coming down evenly over the canopy.
  • Watch the plants, not the numbers. Leaves reaching upward and stems getting long means the light is too far away. Bleached, pale tips at the top of the canopy means it is too close.
  • Put it on a mains timer. A light that comes on and goes off at the same time every day does more for a plant than an extra fifty watts.
  • Check the plug option before you order if you are shipping outside the UK.

Get the light right first. Everything else in a small indoor setup is easier to fix afterwards.
